Most palms on the Sunshine Coast benefit from a trim once or twice a year, depending on the species and how quickly it produces new fronds and seed pods. Fast-producing varieties like Cocos palms may need more frequent attention, while slower-growing species can go longer between services.
Leaving palms untrimmed for extended periods allows dead material to accumulate, which increases fire risk, attracts pests and makes the eventual clean-up a much larger job.
Working at height on a tall palm carries significant risk — particularly when dealing with heavy fronds and seed pods that can fall unpredictably. Without the right elevated access equipment and experience, palm trimming at height is one of those jobs where the consequences of something going wrong are serious.
A qualified operator with the appropriate equipment can carry out the work safely in a fraction of the time it would take to attempt it without the right setup.
Not necessarily. Some degree of lean is normal in palms, particularly those that have grown toward a light source over time. However, a palm that is leaning significantly toward a structure, showing signs of root damage or has been destabilised by storm activity should be assessed by a qualified arborist.
In some cases the palm can be monitored, while in others removal is the safer and more practical option.
